ENDING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
WHY GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
Gender-based violence (GBV) is one of the most prevalent human rights violations in the world. It knows no social, economic, or national boundaries. In Ethiopia, GBV remains a significant challenge, with many women and girls experiencing various forms of violence including physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse.
The consequences of GBV extend beyond the immediate harm to survivors. It affects families, communities, and the broader society, perpetuating cycles of poverty, inequality, and conflict. GBV limits women's and girls' choices and ability to access education, earn income, and participate in public life. It undermines their health, dignity, security, and autonomy.
Our GBV programs aim to address the root causes of violence, support survivors, and create environments where all individuals, regardless of gender, can live free from violence and discrimination. We believe that ending GBV is not only a matter of human rights but also essential for sustainable development and peace.
Through a comprehensive approach that combines prevention, response, advocacy, and the creation of safe spaces, we work to transform harmful gender norms, strengthen support systems for survivors, and promote gender equality at all levels of society.
